英文短文章#6 - Facts about Tiger

Tiger

Tigers have orange fur with black stripes. They can grow up to 3.3 meters long and weigh 300kg.

Tigers eat meat. They usually hunt alone at night and kill their prey by biting their throat. Tigers are good swimmers and can also jump over 5 meters high.

Female tigers give birth to two to six cubs each t time. However, there are fewer than 7,000 tigers left in the wild.

今次用一套新的卡通 - Dora the Explorer。我發覺這套卡通十分好，原因是人物的說話速度適合小朋友學英語。另外，這套卡通應該是為學英文而設的，卡通裡有時主角會問小朋友一些問題，又或要小朋友一起讀某句句子，頗有互相成份。

今次我製作的附帶工作紙需要下載，因為內容結構問題，很難放在這裡。以下是工作紙的預覽，第一頁是學習卡通裡出現過的詞語，其餘頁數是fill in the blanks，要小朋友跟著卡通人物的對話，填寫詞語在適當的空格上。

猜猜畫畫#2 【詞語】The table is messy

今次這個系列是用於學習詞語的，尤其形容詞。由於多數小朋友都喜歡畫畫，所以他們應該會喜歡吧？
第一頁會有一小段文字，小朋友要跟據那段文字所形容畫出圖畫。第二頁會有類似Flashcards的詞語解釋。
今次會學到的詞語：

為何孩子作文有困難？ 觀察力的重要

有否試過當要孩子作文時，他們永遠都會抱怨不知道寫什麼；又或叫他寫週記，他便說沒有什麼特別事發生？這是因為他們缺乏了觀察力，以致影響了他們的思考力。試問平時不善於觀察，又怎會思考到怎樣去作一篇文章或寫下一週發生過的事?

現今小孩缺乏觀察力的原因是，他們很多時學習變得被動。老師叫他們做什麼便做什麼，很少會主動地接受一些外來訊息。所以家長最好盡早培養小孩的觀察力，不要被他習慣了學校那種學習模式。

有一種活動在外國的小學很流行，也有助鍛煉觀察力，就是叫孩子為自己所養的寵物（沒有寵物可以植物代替）以圖畫、文字和相片作詳細的成長記錄。例如：紀錄一棵植物每星期的變化。最後更可將紀錄釘裝成書，他們一定要很有滿足感。

另外，繪畫也可以鍛煉觀察力。所以時間許可而小朋友又喜歡的話，給他們報坊間的繪畫班也可！若不想洗費，其實在家裡跟小孩一起素描繪畫也行。無論畫得好與否，適當時給他們小小鼓勵，成效會更大。

英文短文章#7 - Elephant

Elephant

Elephants are the largest land-living mammal in the world. They have large thin ears and a long trunk. They weigh about six tons.

They use their tusks to dig and find food and usually spend about 16 hours a day to collect food. They don’t eat meat. They like to eat leaves and bamboo.

As Elephants are very large, other animals are afraid of them and will not eat them. However, lions will sometimes prey on baby elephants.
